Frequently Asked Questions

That’s a great question. You certainly don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Therapy is right for you if you are navigating life transitions, rocky relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma, etc. If you feel at least somewhat ready to open up and talk about what you are going through, then therapy is a great next step!
-
That depends. The preferred frequency, at least to start, is weekly sessions to give us a chance to build rapport and explore your goals in therapy. Some people opt for biweekly sessions to make treatment more affordable. I typically only do monthly sessions with clients who have reached their therapy goals and are looking to maintain the tools or insight they’ve gained.

This varies very widely. I've worked with some patients who've needed only a few sessions (5-7) to learn skills and achieve significant relief or change. Far more typical is 3-6 months, and I also see patients for a good bit longer than that. It really depends on the complexity of your symptoms, treatment goals, and what you are seeking to get out of therapy.
In terms of couples therapy, sessions last anywhere from 8 weeks to 20 weeks (or longer), depending upon the couple’s specific needs and progress.

For individual therapy: Prior to the first session, I will send you an intake questionnaire that asks lots of questions about your background and history. During the first session, we will review the intake form (if I have any more specific questions) and collaboratively establish a treatment plan.
For couples therapy: Prior to the first session, I will send each of you a set of intake forms to complete as part of your initial assessment process. We will then schedule a joint session to review my policies, as well as the general structure of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). We will then schedule individual sessions so I can learn more about you and your experience in your relationship. After those sessions, we will schedule a joint session where I will review our treatment plan and take it from there.
-
It depends on what we are working on. Subsequent sessions may look like processing experiences from the prior week, discussing memories from your past, reviewing home assignments, or discussing new strategies for a problem that you are experiencing right now. It depends!

I do not currently accept insurance. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance provider so you can be reimbursed according to their policies. Please contact your insurance carrier to verify your specific plan’s out-of-network benefits and requirements prior to beginning treatment.
